Ueletorunoi (Runes of the Seeing)

In the fall of 2016, I began working on Ueletorunoi, a project that I was very passionate about. It was finally released in 2019 after a lot of time and energy was devoted to its development. My goal was to create a form of living folk magic that would benefit the Gaulish community and serve as a foundation for others to build upon. I wanted to develop a Gaulish form of divination that would focus on cultural concepts within the Gaulish social structure, helping individuals gain a deeper understanding of the cosmos, both on a macro and micro level.

Ueletorunoi draws inspiration from the Celtico Gallic and the Lepontic Italic writing systems. Which was used to record Lepontic inscriptions. It is one of five main Northern Italic alphabets derived from the Etruscan alphabet, dating back to 550 to 100 BC. The Germanic runes likely come from a script belonging to this group. The alphabet does not distinguish between voiced and unvoiced occlusives. Unlike other Gaulish-inspired systems, it does not simply mimic Futhark with a Gaulish twist. Instead, I aimed to create something unique that could stand on its own. Ueletorunoi has no connection to Ogham, Futhark, or any other existing systems. It has no connection to the past besides the letters itself, this is a modern invition. The name Ueletorunoi is derived from two Gaulish words: Uelet, meaning “to see,” and Runos, meaning “secret.” Runos is Singular, Runoi is Plural.

*Connected to Gaulish Culture. Each one is connected to aspects of Gaulish Culture. One for the Tribe, or Warband, things like that. They are not connected to the gods, as I see no reason for them to be. You use them to communicate with the gods and the otherworld.

The first part of the divinatory meaning is connected to Samos the second part is connected to Giamos. There really is no positive or negative; it’s all about the energies around you and being in tune with your intuition.

The Readings
There are many ways to read the Runoi do that which connects with you.
Samos/Giamos with the reading, if the Runos fall face up it is to be read as Samos and face down read as Giamos, or they can be discarded. One must make that decision before casting the Runos. Always be consistent in your casting. I personally don’t do reverse Runoi as that is a modern concept and I feel that it is about being true to your intuitive skills.

Circular Aspects
Casting them onto your cloth, visualize the center being Samos, and the farther away you get, the more Giamos, or the center as having the most direct impact and the farther away less impact. One must first determine the location the Runoi falls in the casting, Is it inside or outside your field. Which Runos is it near, and at what angle are they with the others? Also, are they face up or down.

The Ueletorunoi system offers a nuanced understanding of the energies represented by its symbolism; that being said, I present to you the three wells. Each well delves into aspects of existence, acting as portals through which the Matican (horned serpent) moves between this realm and Antumnos (the otherworld). By categorizing the Runoi into groups based on their thematic elements, one can easily identify and focus on specific aspects, which in turn will allow for a deeper exploration of related concepts and their significance, offering pathways for exploration and growth on your journey.

The Three Wells

The first well, known as the Well of Force, these Runoi are associated with dynamic energies, transformative forces, and the perpetual flux of life. Here, one encounters Runoi linked to vigorous energy, resilience, and the processes of transformation. These Runoi epitomize the potent forces at play in the universe and within individual lives, guiding us through periods of metamorphosis and personal evolution. This well and its Runoi help us to gain insight into the energetic currents shaping our experiences.
Epos, Nertos, Parios, Sonnos, Trexos

In the second well, named the Well of Wisdom, these Runoi are imbued with spiritual insights, wisdom, and connections to the divine. Within this well, Runoi are steeped in spiritual awareness, self-discovery, and communion with higher realms. They signify the deepening of spiritual understanding, the cultivation of wisdom, and the establishment of connections with the sacred. Understanding the Runoi in this well we can enrich our spiritual practices, gain clarity on existential inquiries, and fortify our bonds with the spiritual realm.
Adgarman, Mî, Uissus, Alcos, Drûið, Cridion

The third well, the Well of Harmony, these Runoi represent natural cycles, cosmic order, and the harmonious equilibrium pervading the universe. Here, we engage with Runoi embodying the cyclical rhythms of existence, the dance of life and death, and the inherent order underlying cosmic phenomena. This well and its Runoi offer insights into the cyclical nature of reality, enabling us to attune ourselves to the natural flow of life, align with cosmic principles, and discern the patterns shaping our reality.
Iagis, Locos, Rotos, Ðirâ, Uros, Thunder, Orbios
