Inscrîbatus of the Uātis

Inspired from a coin within the Carnutes territory, this Inscrîbatus is believed to date back to approximately 150 BCE. This symbol is widespread throughout Gaul, etched into stones at sanctuaries and healing shrines dedicated to curative Dēuoi. Resembling an eye, it aligns perfectly with the role of Uātis, as eyes possess a unique and mysterious significance.
Across various cultures, eyes are regarded as symbols of prophecy, offering a literal glimpse into the future. They symbolize the ability to perceive the interconnectedness of the natural order surrounding oneself. In my interpretation, the iris represents self-awareness, observing and comprehending one’s surroundings. The two lines symbolize the journey from life to death or vice versa, embodying the walkers of Antumnos (The Otherworld). The Uātis perceive the magical essence flowing through all things, imparting the mysteries of nature. This Inscrîbatus serves as a pure representation of the essence of a Uatis. One who who unravels the mysteries of life, death, and the mystical threads of the cosmos.
This Inscrîbatus is dedicated to a close spiritual friend of mine the Uatis, Alesiâ Dunnonanationâ.
