Hermetic teachings for the Seeker: Chapter 3: Seeing the Divine in All Things
The seeker’s eyes were fixed on the floor, but the mystic gestured to the window, to the sky, the trees, and the dancing sunlight.
“Seeker, the spark within is only the beginning. Now we extend our vision outward. Every being, every element, every star reflects the Mind within you. Hermes reminds us: ‘All things are filled with Mind, and it is in all things that the soul perceives itself’ (CH X, Mind unto Hermes, X.2–4). The universe is a mirror of the self; the self is a mirror of the universe.”
Seeker: “But the world feels broken — suffering, conflict, decay. How can this all be divine?”
“Appearances are not the whole truth,” the mystic replied. “See the patterns: birth and death, growth and decay, light and shadow. The divine flows beneath all. The spark in you is the same spark that moves the rivers, the stars, and the trees. Seeing the divine is not denying hardship but perceiving the unity beneath all forms.”
The mystic moved closer, voice lowered, “Walk slowly. Listen carefully. Let attention flow like water, touching without clinging. Observe a leaf. Observe the wind. Observe your own thoughts. Each perception is a conversation with the divine.”
Seeker: “How do I practice this each day?”
“Start small,” the mystic suggested. “Notice nature, the actions of others, the rhythms of your own life. Let ordinary moments become extraordinary through mindful attention. Each observation is a seed; over time, the tree of awareness grows, its branches reaching toward understanding.”
Reflection for the Seeker
The world becomes a living text. Nature, people, and events are not distractions; they are mirrors of divine Mind. Awareness of this unity strengthens both observation and reflection. Seeing is not a skill but an awakening — a daily, repeated recognition of the spark in all things.
